Getting Started

The first thing we would say is if you're interested in trying archery - do not buy a bow!

This might sound strange but until you have spent some time shooting, you will not know what size of strength of bow best suits you. The worst thing to do would be to spend a substantial amount of money on buying equipment only to find it was not suitable for you - which might cause you to become discouraged and give up. Good archery shops may well refuse to sell you a bow if you have no shooting experience for exactly this reason!

We run 3 week 'Have a Go' courses which allow you to come along and give archery a try for a reasonable fee, without having to pay the full club membership. We can supply a full set of equipment for you to use while on the course. Should you decide to continue with archery, the club has a wide selection of bows and you can continue using club equipment for a number of months, until you feel confident enough in purchasing your own equipment.

Generally we would encourage new members to start during outdoors shooting season (April-September) - there is more room outdoors, and it also saves you from having to deal with the smaller indoors targets right from the very beginning! We normally take on new members in small groups of around 3 people, this is small enough that you will receive individual attention from the tutors and coaches. You may also find it helpful to be learning alongside other people with a similar level of experience!

If you are interested in joining one of the courses, please Contact us and ask for more details - we will let you know when the next free space on a course is.
