FACE TO FACE TOURNAMENT AMSTERDAM DECEMBER This weekend Neil Dowsett attended an International Face to Face competition in Amsterdam. Shooting as part of Team Custom Built, Neil shot against some of the top Compound archers in the world. The competition consisted of pure head to head rounds, one archer against another. The event was held over two days with the highest single score winning
over the two days. Neils scores were 582, 584, 584 and 580 giving him

Neil Dowsett took first place scoring 590 points, and Ron Edkins took the silver with 576. to top DUNSTABLE RESULTS NOVEMBER Neil Dowsett continued his previous weeks form by scoring 4 more Great Britain qualifying scores at the Dunstable World record status combined FITA. Shooting a 25m Fita on the first day he scored 582 and on the second day again scored 582. In the 18m Fita he again scored 582 on the first day and then 579 on the second. Overall his combined score of 1164 was enough to win him second place, only beaten by the current European Champion, Chris White and to take 3 more County records. ______________________________Back to top DOWSETT GAINS TWO UK QUALIFIYING SCORES AT EVESHAM NOVEMBER Last weekend Neil Dowsett achieved the final 2 scores he required to go through to the Great Britain shoot-offs. There he will be competing for one of the 3 or 4 places on the GB team that will go to the World Championships to be held in Denmark in March next year. Shooting at the Evesham world record status FITA 18m he shot two rounds and scored 581 in both, which when put with the 579 he scored the week before gave him his three required scores to qualify. This was the first big indoor tournament of the year and a chance to try and get the required GB qualifying scores for selection or shoot-off for the World Championships in early 2005. On the Saturday, Neil scored 573 and was seeded 4th going into the head to head and eventually finshed 3rd. He was beaten in the semi-final match by the eventual winner by 2 points. On the Sunday, Neil scored 577, his first qualifying score. He now needs 2 more by the new year to qualify for selection. Over the weekend he also set 3 new county records for the Fita 18m round, 18 arrow pass and 12 arrow pass. ______________________________Back
to top SECOND UK QUALIFYING SCORE FOR NEIL DOWSETT SEPTEMBER Neil Dowsett broke another of his own county records at Lilleshall. Shooting a Double 720 round, Neil's first score of 678 broke the record and gave him his second Great Britain team qualifying score, he then shot 673, giving him 1351 to come 4th overall in the competition. On the second day, shooting in the WMAS Fita star, Neil scored 1342 placing him 5th, breaking his own 50m county record and equaling his record for the Short Metric. The previous weekend Neil had competed in the North Wales Fita star and was placed second with a score of 1328. _____________________________Back to top GRANTHAM ARCHERS OUTDOOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SEPTEMBER The
annual outdoor club championships were held on Sunday 21st September,
in very windy conditions. In the Gents compound Neil Dowsett won with
1317 beating brother Craig into second and Ron Edkins to third. Paul
Hoyes won the Gents recurve and Michelle Dalhaug won the Ladies recurve
section scoring 1025, and, being the only competitor on the day to exceed
their handicap, she also took the handicap trophy. In the juniors Matthew
Stratford won with 955, Edward Harris was second and Callum Atter came
third, Kieran Atter took the meda for junior boy shooting a round other
than their age group. Neil Dowsett took the most golds trophy having

Sunday Grantham Archers held their first annual Pete Harwood Memorial
shoot. 20 club members competed in the St George and Albion rounds and
the scores were done on handicaps to give all contenders a chance. The
memorial plaque, presented to the club by Mrs Avril Harwood, was won
by Kevin Eales with a score of 1431. Second was Michelle Dalhaug with
1414 and third was John Gould with 1409. In the juniors competition,
Jeremy Hackett won with 846, Dominic Dowsett was second with 759 and
Matthew Stratford was third with 653. Neil Dowsett although not placed
in the competiton broke the county record for the St George scoring

was a weekend of personal bests and award winning for Grantham Archers
at Kirby Muxloe this week. ______________________________Back to top ALAN DOWSETT MEMORIAL TROPHY SEPTEMBER On Sunday over 20 members of Grantham Archers competed in the clubs annual Alan Dowsett American round memorial shoot. The scoring was done on a handicap basis so that all archers were in contention. In sunny conditions it was the clubs chairman, Paul Durham who blew away the competition scoring 1472 to take the memorial shield. Second place was claimed by Neil Dowsett with 1442 who not only broke the club record but also the County compound record by getting a perfect score for the American round; 810 points before handicap allowance. In joint third place were Ron Edkins and Tony Hoyes. Shooting in his first ever competition Jerry Hackett won the Junior boys section after a nailbiting finish finally beating Dominic Dowsett by just severn points. TOURNAMENT
RESULTS DOUBLE SUCCESS AS DOWSETT LEADS ENGLAND TO VICTORY AT LILLESHALL BREAKING COUNTY RECORD IN THE PROCESS SEPTEMBER Grantham Archer Neil Dowsett led England to victory in the Home Nations tournament held at Lilleshall last weekend. Shooting in hot conditions Neil scored 1234 in the gents compound York, the highest score of all the teams taking part and breaking the Lincolnshire County record. The competiton was part of the 2 day British target champs and Neil finished ninth overall after the second day. Neils overall score for the two days also set a new county record. _______________________________Back to top Grantham Archer Neil Dowsett has been selected to shoot for England again in the Home Nations Tournament held at the British target Championships at Lilleshall next weekend. He proved his worth this weekend by breaking 4 county records and putting in a Great Britian Team qualifying score at a 720 and Head to Head competition held by Oxford Archers. He took bronze overall in the competiton, narrowly missing a place in the final of the head to head round by one point. In the same competiton Grantham Archers Clova Townhill shooting ladies recurve and Paul Hoyes shooting Gents recurve both made it to the quarter finals. Anthony Hoyes shot a personal best in a 720 round scoring 570 points and earning his 550 FITA badge. _____________________________Back to top CRAIG DOWSETT SUCCESS AT SPALDING YORK/HEREFORD JULY Craig Dowsett carried on his winning form this week with another success in the county. In rainy and windy conditions, shooting the York round at the Silver Spoon Bowmen of Spalding competition he took the gents compound trophy with a score of 1124. In the ladies recurve section, Clova Townhill took second place with 819 and Michelle Dalhaug came third with 797.In the Juniors Matthew Stratford won silver in the Bristol 3 round scoring 762, he also was part of the Lincolnshire junior team which took victory over Norfolk in the annual county match held at the same competition. to top BRISTOL 720 AND F.I.T.A STAR JULY Six Grantham Archers attended a premier event this in Bristol shooting in sunny but windy conditions. On the Saturday they participated in a Fita 720 and Head to Head round with Clova Townhill reaching the Quarter-Final in the Ladies Recurve. On Sunday they shot a World Record Status Fita Star with Neil Dowsett continuing on his impressive shooting streak with a score of 1,353 and breaking five County Records and missing out on his first Great Britain team qualifying score by only seven points. Gavin Dowsett shot a new personal best of 1271 and only seven points short of his first Master bowmen score. Craig Dowsett shot 1263. Neil, Craig and Gavin also won the Compound Team Event with a combine score of 3,887. Shooting Recurve, Paul Hoyes shot 1104, Anthony Hoyes shot a new personal best of 1096 and missed out on his 1100 Fita Star by only four points and Clova Townhill scored 1057. _____________________________Back to top CRAIG DOWSETT WINS COUNTY F.I.T.A JULY Craig Dowsett won the mens compound title at Washingborough to become County F.I.T.A Champion. The competition will be held in Gallway, Southern Ireland. Neil has been chosen to be one of only three Gentlemen compound archers representing the country at this competition. Selection was done on previous 2004 scores and Neils 3 Grand Master Bowman scores won him the place. _____________________________Back to top TWO COUNTY TITLES WON AT LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP JUNE At the County championships on Sunday Grantham Archers took champion lady and champion gent in the compound section. Mel Clarke won the ladies scoring 1204 in the Hereford round and Gary Funnell became Gents champion scoring 1186 in the gents York round. Tony Hoyes took third place in the Gents recurve section scoring 920 and Matthew Stratford was third junior boy in the recurves scoring 829. ______________________________Back to top NOTTINGHAM UNIVERSITY SHOOT RESULTS JUNE In a competition held at Nottingham University last week Craig Dowsett and Tony Hoyes won the Compound and Recurve visitors trophies respectively. He got his third score at a Meriden Archery Club, Coventry, FITA star scoring 1290 points ______________________________Back to top NEIL DOWSETT ACHIEVES GRAND MASTER BOWMAN STATUS JUNE Neil Dowsett has achieved Grand Master Bowman status, this classification represents the top 1% of archers in the country. Shooting a double fita star at Timberly, Manchester last weekend he scored 1281 on the first day and 1343 on the second day gaining a new personal best and breaking his own county record, he was placed third overall in the competition. His second days score was the third Grand Master Bowman score required to achieve the classification. In the same competition, Craig Dowsett put in his second Master Bowman score of the season with 1299, now only requiring one more to gain this status, he was placed 18th overall in the competition. _______________________________Back to top LILLESHALL DOUBLE FITA STAR RESULTS MAY Members
of Grantham Archers attended a Double Fita Star at the National sports
centre in Lilleshall at the weekend. Over the two days Neil Dowsett
secured his Master Bowman classification by scoring 1317 and 1332, he
is now on the way to gaining Grand Master Bowman status needing just
one more score over 1326 this season. Craig Dowsett also put in his

GAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS 18 MTR FITA APRIL
Gentlemen Recurve
In first place with a score of 509 and winner of last years competition as well was Anthony Hoyes. Anthony was followed closely by his Father Paul Hoyes who was second with a score of 499 and in third place was Paul Durham with 471.
Ladies Recurve In first place with a score of 501 was Clova Townhill followed by Michelle Dalhaug in second place with 469 and in third was Tina Eales with 357.
Junior Recurve In first place with a score of 356 was Matthew Stratford followed in second by Chris Scott-Coombes with 96 and in third Sam Dwyer with 94. Congratulation to all the juniors who shot, and for most this was their first proper round and tournament ever shot. So Well Done.
Gentlemen / Ladies Longbow
In first place with an impressive score of 175 was Matthias Heil followed in second by John Gould with 131.
Gentleman Compound
In first place and winner of this competition for the second year in a row was Neil Dowsett with a score of 564. Followed very closely by his brother Criag Dowsett who finished in second with 552 and in third was Gavin Dowsett with 546.
Gentlemen / Ladies Novice
The winner of this years awards for Gentlemen Novice was Ron Edkins and for Ladies Novice was Jackie Scott-Coombes.
Most Xs & 10s Unfortunately on the night due to time we have no choice but to go with the scores that are written down and signed for by the Archers and based on this Anthony Hoyes was announced as winner. However after review of the score sheets it is come to light that the winner of the Most Xs & 10s was Neil Dowsett with a total of 25.
My apologies to both Anthony and Neil for the inconvenience this may have caused.
Congratulation to all the winners and thankyou to everyone that participated and made the event very enjoyable. _____________________________Back to top The Recurve team with only five archers shooting in very windy conditions scored 1419 and beat Abbey Bowmen who scored 1359. As for the Compound team they shot an excellent score of 680 and beat Bognor Regis who unfortunately could only get one archer to shoot the frostbite and who scored 334.Overall both the Recurve and Compound teams only lost one match throughout the entire series. |
