BOSTON INDOOR SERIES DECEMBER

Grantham archers competed in the second of the Boston indoor series on Sunday.
Shooting an 18m Fita Simon Terry took first place in the gents recurve with 584 points. Neil Dowsett took the gents trophy in the compound scoring 584, with Tony Hoyes coming third with 563. In the Ladies recurve Michelle Dalhaug came second with a score of 521, beating her previous personal best by 65 points. Simon, Neil and Michelle also took the team trophy for the club.

L.A.S A.G.M SHOOT. NOVEMBER

Grantham Archers made there presence felt at the Lincolnshire County Archery Society AGM shoot in Boston last weekend. In the Gents compound Neil Dowsett came joint 1st in the Portsmouth round with a score of 586, Tony Hoyes was second with 579 and Ron Edkins came third with 578. In the Gents recurve Simon Terry outstripped the competition scoring 595, and in the ladies recurve Michelle Dalhaug came second with 500.

BEDFORD COMBINED FITA OCTOBER

Simon Terry placed 1st in the recurve division and his scores of 579 and 585 out 600 have secured his place at the Great Britain shoot-off for the forth coming indoor European Championships early in the new year.

MERIDEN ARCHERS SEPTEMBER

Fita 70m & H2H Tournament
Date: 4th September 2005
Weather: Very hot, slight cool wind at times

This was the last Fita 70m of the year and thus the last chance to gain valuable National ranking points and GB qualifying scores. This made for a really exciting event with most of the country's top shooters turning out. In the mens compound section Neil Dowsett of Grantham Archers was leading the field at the half way point with a impressive 351 out of 360 a head of the British number one. Unfortunately Neil could not hold on to this lead and eventually finished in 2nd place with 693 beating is current club, county and regional record. Simon Terry taking part in the gents recurve division was slightly down on is normal high scoring but still qualified in 3rd place.

In the afternoons head to head tournament Neil got through to the last 8 before narrowly losing by one point. Simon showed his true competitive nature by battling through 4 rounds before losing by 2pts in the semi final and then winning the bronze medal match on a sudden tie break single arrow shoot-off.

OXFORD ARCHERS (Sat) Double Fita 70m / (Sun) Fita 70m and H2H AUGUST

Date: 6th & 7th August

Saturday: Double Fita 70m

This competition was a premier event and accordingly in the compound competition six archers out of the seven that have already qualified for next years GB team selection shoot for the European championships were in attendance. The weather was good and scoring was high and at the half way stage only a few points separated the top five. As the second half of the tournament progressed the top three places changed several times and with a dozen to go the top three were within three points of each other. At the end of the competition Grantham Archers Neil Dowsett came out on top with a total score of 1365 putting in a second half score of 689 to win the tournament by 2pts. The combined score is a new club, county and regional record.

Paul & Tony Hoyes also took part but were unplaced.

Sunday: Fita 70m & Head 2 Head

Again a very close and tight competition with three people from the compound qualifying round appearing to have the edge on the rest of the field and this continued into the knockout stages. Neil who qualified in 2nd spot with 686 came through several rounds to eventually being beaten in a close fought final by two points.

PETER HARWOOD MEMORIAL SHIELD. JULYPeter Harwood memorial trophy winner Anthony Hoyes on full draw.

Grantham Archers held their annual Pete Harwood memorial shoot this weekend. The round shot was the St George for which Pete still holds the county record. The winner of the shoot, which was scored on handicaps, was Tony Hoyes with a score of 1493. In second was Clova Townhill with 1474 and in third was Steve Knowles with 1452. Neil Dowsetts score before handicap of 948 broke his own county record.

ENGLAND CALL UP FOR SIMON TERRY AND NEIL DOWSETT. JULY

Grantham Archers members Neil Dowsett and Simon Terry have both been selected to shoot for England in a Home Nations tournament in mid August. Neil Dowsett has also qualified for the Great Britain Team selection shoot offs by achieving another personal best and GB qualifying score of 1374 at Welbeck at the weekend, winning the gents Compound trophy at the Fita Star into the bargain. Simon came third in the gents recurve scoring 1198.

Grantham Archers were on winning form again last Sunday competing in the Cleve Archers Premier Event in Bristol. JULY

The weekend event consisted of a Fita 720 and Head to Head on Saturday and a Fita Star on Sunday. Neil Dowsetts 720 score of 691 qualified him in first place for the head to head and was also a new club, county and regional record. He went on to win the head to head eent in the afternoon. Simon Terry shot 643 for the 720, qualifying second and went through 5 rounds to win the head to head in the gents recurve. On the Sunday in very wet and windy conditions Neil shot 1273 in the Fita Star to win the shoot and Tony Hoyes also of Grantham archers came second with 1216 having only been competing in compound for 6 months. SImon Terry came second in the gents recurve Fita with 1196. The three archers also took the team trophy for the club.

Clophill 70m / Head to Head (Premier Event)
Date: 9th / 10th July

Venue: Redbourne Community College, Bedfordshire
Weather: Sat - Windy and overcast. Sun - Windy and very hot

Format: Two separate days of competition consisting of a qualifying round in the morning both days (6 dozen @ 70m) followed by the head to head knockout matches in the afternoon. i.e. seed one against 32 and so on.

Saturday
Qualifying Round / Final position:
Neil Dowsett - Qualified 7th (667) and finished 6th overall
Ian Martin - Qualified 14th (655) and got knockout in the 1/16stage
Simon Terry - Qualified 1st (636) and came 2nd overall after coming through 5 rounds and narrowly losing the final
Paul Hoyes - Not sure on qualification and got knockout in the first round.

Sunday
Neil Dowsett - Qualified 1st (660) and came 1st overall after coming through 5 rounds and winning the final by 1pt.
Ian Martin - qualified 11th (643) and lost in the 3rd round.
Simon Terry - Qualified 3rd (616) and came 1st overall after coming through 5 rounds and winning the final by 1pt.

ANOTHER WIN FOR NEIL DOWSETT AT CHESTER FITA STAR EVENT JULY

Neil Dowsett took another trophy at the weekend winning the Chester Fita Star. Shooting in dry but very windy conditions in Upton, Neil put in a score of 1318 to claim first place.

Great Briton Internationals Simon Terry  and Neil Dowsett.LINCOLN DOUBLE FITA STAR RESULTS JUNE

Neil Dowsett and Simon Terry showed their winning form at last weekends East Midlands Archery Association double Fita Star at Lincoln. Neil took first Gents compound scoring 1283 on the first day and 1360 on the second. His second days score was another Great Britain qualifying score. Simon scored 1199 on the first day and 1218 on the second winning him their gents recurve prize. Simon has also been selected to shoot for England in next weeks Euronations tournament.

LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS JUNE

Mel Clarke ( Ladies Compound), Neil Dowsett (Gents Compound) and Simon Terry (Gents Recurve) each take county titles in there respective disciplines. Ian Martin (Gents Compound) and Clova Townill (Ladies Recurve) both gain second places. Also in the medal line up was Craig Dowsett wining the Gents distance award and Anthony Hoyes winning the most golds award. Mel Clarke also took the Ladies distance award.

GB QUALIFYING SCORE FOR NEIL DOWSETT AT SOUTHPORT FITA STAR JUNE

Grantham Archers Neil Dowsett and Simon Terry showed their winning form again at Lancashire Archery Associations Fita Star at Southport on Saturday. Neil won the gents compound with a score of 1368, setting a new personal best, county record and Great Britain squad qualifying score. Simon took the gents recurve prize with a score of 1271. Tony Hoyes, shooting gents compound was unplaced but shot a new personal best of 1246.

ANOTHER WIN FOR SIMON TERRY AT MERIDEN FITA STAR MAY

Simon Terry took another victory at the weekend winning a Fita Star at Meriden. Shooting in the Gents recurve Simon scored 1,247. Competing in the gents compound, Neil Dowsett confirmed his Grand Master Bowman status by getting his third qualifying score of the season scoring 1,339. Scoring 1,279, Ian Martin achieved his second Master Bowman score of the year, now only needing one more qualifying score to secure Master Bowman status for the season.

BOWMEN OF RUTLAND FITA STAR MAY

Grantham Archers Neil Dowsett and Simon Terry showed their quality again this weekend shooting in the Bowmen of Rutland British Record Status Fita Star. In tricky conditions Neil won the Gents compound with 1343 and Simon took the Gents recurve trophy with 1256. Also competing was Ian Martin who although unplaced, put in his first Master Bowman score of the season with 1280.

GREAT GLEN FITA STAR MAY
Grantham Archers will be entering three of its members into this years UK Masters Tournament at the National Sports Centre later in the year. Neil and Craig Dowsett are both qualified to enter and this weekend Simon Terry secured his place by achieving his third Master Bowman score this season. Despite having to retire from a competition in Manchester the day before due to high winds, Simon and Neil competed in the Great Glen record status Fita star on Sunday As well as gaining Master
Bowman Simon also won the Gents recurve section with a score of 1226 and Neil won the gents compound scoring 1313.


SILVERSPOON WESTERN APRIL

Grantham Archers took the Ladies and Gents recurve prizes at last weeks Silverspoon Bowmen Western held in Spalding. Simon Terry winning the Gents recurve with a score of 834, way ahead of the rest of the field. Clova Townhill took the ladies prize scoring 767 points, Michelle Dalhaug came third in the ladies recurve with 613. In the Ladies compound round Maxine Bailey came second with 688 points. In the Junior Western round Matthew Stratford came third with a score of 656.

GRANTHAM ARCHERS INDOOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP APRIL

This week Grantham Archers also held their club championships. Again Simon Terry won the gents recurve section scoring 562 in the 18m FITA round, second was Steve Knowles with 507 and third was Tony Hoyes scoring 498. in the Ladies recurve Clova Townhill was first with 521 and Michelle Dalhaug came second with 456. In the Gents compound Neil Dowsett was the winner with 576 also winning the most golds trophy Craig Dowsett was second with 554 and Ron Edkins with 543 came third. In the Ladies Compound Jane Bilici took first place in her first competition scoring 483 and second went to Maxine Bailey with 438. In the Juniors, Matthew Stratford won with 387 and Jez Hackett was second with 241. Jane Bilici also won the handicap competition with 1488.

FRISKNEY YORK APRIL

Grantham Archers took two titles at Friskney Bowmens annual Bank Holiday shoot. In the first York round of the season former Olympic double bronze medalist Simon Terry won the Gents Recurve section scoring 1078. England International Neil Dowsett took the Gents Compound title with a score of 1240. 190

LINCOLNSHIRE INDOOR COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP MARCH

Grantham Archers took home a number of awards at this years Lincolnshire Indoor Championships held in Cleethorpes. The archers shot a double Portsmouth round. Neil Dowsett took first place in the Gents Compound scoring 1167, with brother Craig taking third place with 1141. In the Gents recurve, new member Steve Knowles came third in his first season of competitions scoring 1095. Clova Townhill and Michelle Dalhaugtook second and third places in the Ladies recurve scoring 1101 and 1085 respectively. Michelle also smashed her previous personal best for the single round by 20 points. In the Ladies compound, scoring 998, another new member, Maxine Bailey, came second after only starting to shoot compound in February.

BOSTON PAA RESULTS FEBRUARY

Clova Townhill shot to a first place in Bostons PAA round held on Sunday, shooting in the recurve section Clova finished with a score of 284 out of 300. Gavid Dowsett also gained a first place in the Compound section dropping just one point out of a poss 300. Olympic bronze medalist Simon Terry continues his impressive comback finishing in second place in the recurve section with 283 points. Clova, Gavin and Simon together took the team trophy.

SHERWOOD ARCHERS DOUBLE PORTSMOUTH RESULTS FEBRUARY

Members of Grantham Archers attended a Double Portsmouth shoot held by Sherwood archers in Kirklington.

In the Gents Compound, Neil Dowsett came third with 585 and 588. In the Ladies recurve, Michelle Dalhaug shot a personal best of 487 and 504 taking second place, Maxine Bailey came third, also with a personal best of 362 and 445. There were more personal bests obtained by Gavin Dowsett scoring 568 and 579 and Steve Knowles who scored 515 and 537.

Nimes Open International Archery Tournament FEBRUARY

Date: 14th-16th Janunary
Competitors: 800
Round: World Record Status Fita 18m

Competing against over 200 world class archers Grantham Archers Neil Dowsett shooting in the Compound division finished with a score of 576, another GB qualifying score leaving him in 33rd position. Neils luck was out this weekend, needing to finish it the top 32 to go through to the final shootoffs Neil was placed in joint 31st-34th position, this would normally involve the tying archers to shoot off for the two remaining places, however in this case the names were drawn out of a hat, Neil being drawn 33rd.

Neils fellow club member Garry Funnel shooting for the first time after a long layoff finished with a score of 573 leaving him in 43rd place.

GAVIN DOWSETT IN WINING FORM AT GRIMSBY 18Mtr FITA JANUARY

Gavin Dowsett was on top form at the weekend competing in Grimsby Archers 18m Fita. Shooting a round in the morning and one in the afternoon, Gavin shot 556 and 566 gaining a personal best and winning the Gents compound section by 12 points.

CLOVA TOWNHILL BREAKS COUNTY RECORD AT BOSTON JANUARY

Grantham Archers did well at Boston on Sunday winning the Ladies recurve trophy and the Gents compound. Shooting a Worchester round, Clova Townhill took the Ladies title and broke the county record with a score of 285. Neil Dowsett came joint 1st in the gents with a maximum 300 and Ron Edkin also took third place in the gents compound scoring 298.
